A place for Netbooks and Small Tablet PC Computers

Monday, September 26th, 2011

When choosing a mini laptop for those places where a standard size model is just too incompatible for what you want to do, it is important to keep in mind that these netbooks are not going to be as powerful as the larger laptops. They offer you a smaller version of a portable computer so they are indeed great for using in places and situations where their small size makes them more appropriate for use.

Most of the activities which you enjoy using your laptop for might be a little slower when using a mini laptop simply because the hardware inside the computer is not as powerful as what is found in larger 15 inch to 17 inch laptops. But the trade off is in the lightweight portability of these cheap netbooks which is a big concern when you consider that those larger models can weigh nearly ten pounds… ouch! So what can you do about this? For one thing, most of the new mini laptops on sale today will come pre-configured with 1GB of memory. It is a good idea to upgrade this to the maximum amount which is usually 2GB of memory. This is a wonderful way for you to easily speed up the performance of your netbook computer without spending much either.

There are some really similar specifications which are found among different cheap mini laptops from different brands and makers. The specs do not really vary much among certain netbook classes. One common configuration is Windows 7 on a 160GB to 250GB hard drive, a maximum of 2GB of DDR3 memory and an Intel Atom processor. The primary differences are in the other more feature oriented specifications between different cheap netbooks. Many of the Asus netbooks for instance will have very similar specifications to the Acer specs within the same netbook class. The feature oriented differences will be in things like the camera, the proprietary software and utilities and even the ports which are available on a given model.

Since the way that we use mini laptops and the way that they are designed with a keyboard and LCD screen built-into them, they prove to have a great sense of familiarity. And while they certainly are "miniature" versions of the full sized laptops that we are so used to, they definitely do not require the adjustments in how to get around on them that mini tablet PC computers do. It is not that the mini tablets are difficult to get used to, but they since they are not the same familiar design as a laptop, they do require a bit of new learning to get around on. Yet that can be fun depending on how you look at it, at least we have some really great alternative choices in the mini computing devices that we can use in such are variety of scenarios today while avoiding the bulkiness of larger laptops.
